History:
In 1997, the establishment of this field of study was proposed by the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education and the Board of Examiners and Evaluation of the Department of Midwifery was assigned to develop its curriculum.
The department officially started to work in 2017 and currently collaborates with the Department of Midwifery in educating undergraduate and graduate midwifery students.
Perspective:
Given the critical importance of proper policymaking and planning for fertility and improving the quality of reproductive health services, this field of study can play a major role in cultivating knowledgeable and efficient workforces, improving the quality of reproductive health services, and achieving scientific purposes.
Mission:
1) Training specialized and committed workforces to provide quality midwifery and reproductive health services and maintain and promote the reproductive health of the community in line with national policies;
2) Training capable human resources to plan for the reproductive health field, and to improve the quality of reproductive and midwifery health services and conduct theoretical-applied research to meet the research needs of society and realize scientific authority in this field; and
3) Conducting research, accessing the latest scientific works, innovation, preparing required literature, and developing the science of midwifery and reproductive health at the national and international levels;
Research priorities:
1) Women's health and strategies to improve it;
2) Evaluation of sexual health and factors affecting it in different age groups;
3) Education before and during marriage;
4) Childbearing and fertility;
5) Reproductive rights;
6) Midwifery services; and
7) Internal-surgical care and fertility-pregnancy
