The Adult and Elderly Nursing Department, firstly named Internal Surgery Department, was established in 1986 as the largest educational department of the faculty and covering most of the theoretical and clinical courses of continuous and discontinuous undergraduate nursing MSc. programs. The department's duties expanded dramatically and the its name was changed to Adult and Elderly Nursing Department.

Improving theoretical and clinical education; Bridging the gap between theoretical and practical education in clinical settings; and Improving nursing care quality based on the professional standards of adult and elderly nursing in the next 10 years.

1) Empowering professors in new educational and evaluation methods; Supporting faculty members with educational innovation; Making efforts to attract fund per student;

2) Making efforts to bridge the gap between practical and theoretical education; Establishing a peer education program; Holding workshops to empower faculty members and students;

3) Alignment of theoretical and practical courses; Engaging hospital staff in student education; Improvement and appropriate training of clinical skills; Reviewing the curriculum according to the needs of society; Helping to secure patients' rights; Engaging students in holding seminars, conferences, etc.;

4) Creating competition among graduates; Developing an action plan in line with the goals of the University; Interacting with research centers of other faculties; and

Supporting joint research projects aligned with the goals of the department.

3) Empowering patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and their family caregivers;

5) Promoting drug safety

6) Assessing the care needs of adults and the elderly;

7) Localization of clinical care guidelines for adults and the elderly with common illnesses discharged from the hospital; and

8) Nursing care for patients with non-communicable diseases.
